Flights and lodging are definitely not cheap with a quick Travelocity check, and all the more affordable hotels are 20mi outside Hamburg, which brings Uber or cab fare into the cost too.
As much as I would love to enjoy a Gathering of the Bums over a commercial festival, the Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival looks to be the only thing that's really doable for me price wise, especially including ground transportation from airport to hotel and hotel to venue, which I could walk back and forth from at a few places.
It wouldn't make my knees happy, but I could really use the exercise anyway,and its 5mi or less which I can handle.
I seem to recall someone here suggesting setting up a laptop with Zoom running for others who can't go to peek in, and those at the event to stop at and say hi, in reference to another Bum get together, so maybe I'll be able to live vicariously through video and be envious and still meet a few Bums.
These are the times I wish I still drove, as a drive to PA would be nothing as I have driven coast to coast non-stop twice in the navy, plus driving from Wyoming to Las Vegas once and Michigan twice, and would fix the local travel issues too.
Plus could stop in Michigan on the trip back and visit my sister and nieces i haven't seen in person in 15 years, and my mother in about 8 years.
Will seriously do some reconsidering of the self imposed driving ban this summer as it would open up a lots of doors, and make enjoying my unfortunate early retirement better.
Maybe next year gentlemen (and Kayla of course), I'll show up in my beater vehicle and enjoy the festivities.
Do hope someone runs with the Zoom idea. I'd definitely spend some time meeting and putting faces and voices to usernames and just watching the action.
