I fully agree with this statement. I watch for the list each year but I don't put anything on my "to try" list just because of this point. I am not a big habano guy myself, so their recommendations/results don't do a ton for me. That being said, Padron 1926 and Oliva V are phenomenal smokes. I may be in the minority on this, but Opus X doesn't do anything for me. Now, a Fuente Anejo on the other hand, delicious.
Then we have the advertising aspect as well which certainly seems to produce some odd results. Remember the CAO Flathead being #2 a few years ago? While that is a darker smoke, it is one I've tried a couple of times and it wasn't memorable for me.
Perhaps the DogRockets Top 10 should become a list.
