I'm essentially a Virginia, Va/Per, Burley smoker, but sometimes I just have to have some of that smoky Latakia. So, it's C&D Tuskegee Airman in a MM Legend.

It is sweet, a bit of sour fruit, and barely any noticeable Latakia.
Something in it still gives me a bit of bite, but it is pretty good.
Welcome back, @JimInks !
I enjoy seeing your posts, even when the rest of us can't hope to keep up! ;-)
Just a little left in this bowl of C&D Christmas Blend 2016 in a 2013 MM straight Legend.
Thank you. I was happy to see more posting while I was gone. I just hope returning will not inhibit others as it has done before. The fun in this for me is being a part of this, and enjoying what others say and smoke. It's not at all fun when I see mostly myself, which is why I did stop posting in a couple other forums.

Decided to allow myself to open one new tin, narrowed it down to 7 candidates but couldn't choose one, so it's back to the open tins. Dunhill Royal Yacht in a no name straight stem Algerian briar smooth billiard. The smoke is great, the pipe not so much. It has a slightly oval shaped mouthpiece, making it almost impossible to clench. Need to either do some file work on it or throw it in the "do not revisit" box.
Now smoking 1980s Ogden’s St. Bruno Flake in a 2003 medium bent Ural meer with a lined and etched egg shaped bowl with a silver band and a pearl brown acrylic stem. I sure am lucky to have this aged version.
Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture in a W.O. Larsen Select Handmade bulldog I picked up a few years back at Edward's Pipe and Tobacco in Los Altos, Ca. I remember at the time thinking that's really more than I should be spending on a pipe, but it turned out to be such a terrific smoker I've never regretted the purchase.
Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem.

Milan Tobacconist's Our Own Captain Black in a cob, on a walk with the fam.
Okay, I caved and popped a new tin. In fact I did something I never, ever do. I popped a fresh off the truck tin. Normally I won't smoke anything until it has at least a year of age on it, but was so anxious to try this, Russ Ouellette's Acadian VaPer It's one of those one shot, when it's gone it's gone blends. A bit pricey at $20 per tin, but after reading the description I had to try it. I'll leave the reviews and descriptive terms to those with a more developed palate than mine, but will say this is the most unusual blend I've ever smoked. It's Perique and yellow Virginia processed in the same method as Perique, so I was expecting peppery spice but what I got was more like red wine, or even mead. A thin ribbon cut, needs no drying, smokes well straight out of the tin. I'm really enjoying this one.
MacBaren Symphony in a slight bent black pattern etched 1979 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma tilted top with a gray swirl colored stem.
SPC Mississippi River in a MM Legend with a straight Forever stem.
Half way through this bowl of Dunbar in a post WW2 Pre-Republic Peterson Dublin straight smooth X155 Bulldog with a sterling silver band and a black vulcanite p-lip stem. Ice water and bergs is my evening drink.
A bowl of Carter Hall in a pre WW II John Bessai smooth billiard marked Cleveland, O. over USA. The pipe has darkened considerably over the years, but in bright light there still can be seen some beautiful bird's eye running from the heel up the front of the bowl. If a previous owner hadn't had such a heavy hand with a pipe knife around the inside of the rim it would be a candidate for professional restoration. Still, it's a great smoker and a treasured piece of my Bessai collection.
It's been 1 year today the world lost a great man. Enjoying a bowl of my grandfather's favorite tobacco, Amphora brown, in my favorite pipe. Wish he was here to share a bowl with me.
