Two Stanwells, One Review

These two pipes were my most recent acquisitions prior to buying a piece from a fellow Puffer the other week. After hearing @MarkC , a BOTL whose opinion I greatly respect, continually sing the praises of Stanwells, I thought I would try a couple out for myself. To me, the $50-$100 price range is extraordinarily significant because it allows newer smokers, as well as veterans, the opportunity to buy multiple decent quality pipes that are above drugstore grade without breaking the bank. Both of these are in the same shape, as I generally prefer a straight or ¼ bend, and they have very similar bowl dimensions (Night and Day= 42mmx16mm, Black Relief 41mmx16mm). The Night and Day is a little snazzier with its lighter tone band and heavy shine. One of the first things I noticed when I received these were the significant weight of the pipes. They feel very comfortable in hand, but are a little too much for prolonged clinching. For this reason neither has seen much use during my commuting, and instead has been enjoyed while sitting on the back porch. Cleaners pass beautifully through both acrylic stems, and if you’re interest in filters, both models accept the standard 9mm variety. I think one of the reasons behind their heftiness is the thickness of the bowls. Both are substantial compared to say most LaRoccas I have seen in this price range, and it results in a cool burn that is never uncomfortable to handle. Overall I consider both of these pipes to be of good quality, and exceptional value for their pricepoint. If anyone is looking for a solid smoker, but doesn’t want to have to save up for it, I suggest looking into a Stanwell!
