Smoke em both and cigarettes too.In fact I took a Cohiba Red Dot to a buddy today. He almost hugged me but I run faster than him.
I started on cigars and transitioned to pipes. I smoke my pipes way more than cigars, but I'm still a cigar smoker. While I would never call cigars one dimensional, there is a definite flavor profile almost all cigar tobacco has. Cigars taste like cigars. Pipe tobacco offers a very wide range of flavors. Some there is no comparison to be had between them. That and the pipes themselves just struck a cord with me.
I generally smoke something nice in a CC when I've abstained a few days like I just did. Also have a cigar and coffee to start the weekend. Lately I catch myself thinking about when the first pipe is going to hit. I'd say I'm transitioning. This is a fascinating hobby.
I started with cigars and picked up a pipe after a year or two.
I still smoke cigars, but smoke pipes more, probably at least 5/1.
It's a time thing mostly. I rarely have an hour and a half to dedicate to a smoke.
I do enjoy cigars very much still, just once a week or so. I usually find time for a bowl every evening.
Like many, I started with cigars and tried the pipe due to time. Found that I really like the nuances present in the pipe, and now I have a medium size tupperdore full of cigars and a house full of pipey goodness. Still enjoy a cigar, but the pipe is my number one.
I smoke pipes and cigars. they are definitely very different.
I tend to prefer pipes, but I still get a jonesing for a good cigar some days.
There is something about a good pipe tobacco that I just don't get from a cigar.
I was a pipe smoker first, so I guess it's no surprise that a cigar is just an occasional thing for me. Cigars are a treat; pipes are part of my life.
Interesting replies.... I'm so new to pipes I can't really answer my own question yet, but I do find myself a lot more interested in them lately. I also find myself seeking out pipe tobacco-like cigars. But I can't imagine pipes taking over completely, and I doubt any baccy could satisfy my urge for a really cedary creamy cigar, like an Ashton or Davidoff or Fuente. I guess I'm just gradually narrowing down my preferences. The weird thing is that with cigars my tastes run more medium-mild, but with pipes I prefer stronger flavors like blends with latakia.
