Have any of you guys ever had a "dry spell" where you didn't smoke for a while? I'll admit it's been over a month since I've picked up one of my pipes. Not sure why but just haven't felt the desire to puff lately. I really hope this is just a temporary thing!

Yep. I went a couple years without one right before I joined our former site.
When I got back into it, well, you may have seen me around...
Even now, I'll find that I've gone a week or two due to schedule, weather, etc.
I too hit a lot of dry spells. It drives me nuts actually. When I do pick up a pipe (or cigar for that matter), I really enjoy it and think why did I do that in the first place (stop). But then, I fall off the wagon again...and again.

I went from Nov 2010 to June 2014 without a cigar or pipe due to life priorities.I first found a great deal on a humi and sticks and about 6 months ago my wife asked me why I didn't smoke my pipes. I didn't have a good reason other than just being without pipe tobacco.So I tripped on down "Electric" avenue and got me some. I much prefer my pipes,more flavor and no stubs or butts to clean up.
Yes, I often go a month or two without smoking, then I'll smoke for a week straight. It's very hit or miss for me.
Nice to see it's not uncommon. I thought maybe something was wrong with me.
The important thing is to enjoy the smoke,not need it.So you sit out for a bit,that just makes the next smoke that much more relaxing and flavorfull .

I have had spells of not smoking a pipe, both short and long, since I first started. For instance, the last dry spell was from 2010 to 2014. I got into cigars there for a couple of years, then lost interest in both of them for a couple of years. The thing that got me back into it this time was a Groupon that came out for BnB Tobacco Co. (online) last summer (2014). I was well stocked on cigars but the Dunhill tins looked really good. So I bought one of the Groupons and got a bunch of tins with it (it turned out to be a great deal). That's when I got back into pipe smoking and refurbishing old pipes (still like my cigars).
The last few weeks have been a bit of a dry spell for me, both smoking and on the forums. Life got busy and lower priority items placed on the back burner. Riding the motorcycle during the summer also cuts into my pipe smoking as I normally have at least a bowl on the commute to work.
I'm not a long time piper by any stretch but I've already noticed lulls in my motivation to have a pipe or cigar.
I may have 2-3 bowls a day for a week, then I may go a week with none.
I'm that way with drinking too though. Some weeks I'll go through an 18 pack. Here lately I haven't really wanted any. I bought a 6 pack a month ago and 2 of them are still in the fridge.
It's all about what kind of mood I'm in and what I'm wanting at the moment.
Its natural I guess.
I once went several days without picking up the pipe. But since I was in the hospital, that may not count.
Stopped when I was twenty and picked it back up 35 years later. How's that for a dry spell?
A couple of 10 year stints off for me.
At first, all I knew was Captain Black white. It smelled delightful in the pouch and even better when lit. I put the pipe down for something like a decade and never missed it.
In my second tryst with the pipe, I branched out to Captain Black gold and blue. I even tried out a few bulk aromatics from a local B&M. I know. Crazy. I still had my trusty meer-lined Dr. Grabow half-bent and spent a couple of years trying to find a way to enjoy more than the smell of the smoke. Many episodes of a scorched tongue later, I put it down again.
Fast forward another 10 years and I decided to pick it up once again. How does that old saying go? "The third time is the charm"? Yes, well this time I started with an MM cob and a pouch of Prince Albert. I discovered flavor. Next came other codger burly blends, then a smattering of virginias, vapers, english blends, and lakelands (yes I put them in their own category). I joined the old prickly fish site and did a newbie trade. That led to trading with various members there and trying everything I could stuff into my cob. Before long I discovered how to get free shipping from the online vendors. All you have to do is spend $95 :woohoo:. I took advantage of this great deal. A lot :shocked: . I discovered TAD. I embraced TAD. And I am happy to be back and puffing again. :piper:
