A quarter is a LOT thicker than a hotel butter knife (unless it's one heck of a butter knife!). Use something solid and it works. Also, I have no real grasp of the laws of physics, but twisting seems to get much better results than prying, at least from what I've seen.

A few years ago, the Herfadors were made with a nice ABS plastic with a smooth finish and they sealed very well. At some point, the manufacturing changed to a softer, matte-finish plastic. When that happened, the tolerances changed, the plastic wasn't molded as perfectly, and so they didn't seal as well. I ordered then returned several because of the issue.

No idea if it's fixed now or if they still have issues, but I hang on to my older 5ct and 15ct. The Xikars on the other hand continue to be a well-molded ABS plastic that seems to seal perfectly, I have a recent 10ct that works great.

It's a shame because for whatever reason I much prefer the look of the Otterboxes/Herfadors to the Xikars. Wish I could find an older 10ct Herfador before they changed the plastic.
