Yes, a 150 proof or higher straight grain alcohol should do the trick without leaving any aftertaste...i.e. everclear

I keep everclear on hand for stripping stain off of pipes.

I switched from vodka to everclear for making jalapeño and habanero extracts for my beers so I happen to have some on hand as well. Hanks for the tip!
