I just got turned on to Peter Stokkebye's Cube cut burley thanks to
@Emperor Zurg
. If you like Carter Hall, you will like that stuff. It burns slower, tastes better (to me) and is cheaper to boot.
Highlands is just a Scottish mixture. I would check out Robert McConnell's Scottish Cake if you like the Highlander...but the Highlander will be a lot cheaper.
Other than that, I can just give you the stereotypical blends that I always recommend for starters:
Grab something from the Frog Morton series to get into Latakia. Another option is Red Rappare or Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe. All lighter on Latakia.
Grab a nice Virginia like Orlik Golden Slices or my favorite Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake
If you want to try an Aromatic, I would stay away from the "goopers." I like Haddo's Delight. All of Dan's Tobacco aromatics are excellent. Samuel Gawith Firedance is excellent as well.
If you want to get into some bolder, more full bodied smokes:
Larrys Blend
Nightcap
Abingdon
Star Of The East
I guess that is a decent starting point. Also pay attention to the "What Am I Smoking Thread." You will notice trends, and if a lot of people are smoking the same stuff, it is probably a quality leaf to put in yer pipe and smoke it.
