I eventually smoke both throughout my 12 hour work day.
Which leads to my second question. How long is it safe to leave a half or partially smoked bowl in there.?
I haven't noticed anything negative so far but just curious if there was general practice. Thanks folks and cheers.

I've heard tales of folks loading a pipe, setting it on a book shelf somewhere and forgetting about it for years only to find it one day and fire it up to find a great smoke waiting for them. However, I wouldn't count on that being the case - seems it could just as well go the other way. That being said, many times it's good practice to load a bowl the day before and smoke it the next day - lets your tobacco dry out slowly and there's no risk of it shattering into dust while loading a bowl like it would if you over dried it before hand.
As far as partially smoked bowls; it all depends on the tobacco. I've nursed the same bowl along for 3 days - not consecutive either, day or two off in between - and had a perfectly enjoyable smoke every time. Other times, I've set it down for an hour and come back to a nasty, unsmokable mixture that I was sorry I left stewing in the pipe. You'll find which mixtures play this game well and which ones bow out after an hour or so left to get cold.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
