Ordered some Samuel Gawith Cabbie's Mixture.
Vapers are my favorite and I like most every SG blend I've tried, so thought I'd give it a shot.
I found a sentimental dream come true when I found this matched set of Tinder Box Uniques. This is the same as the first pipe of mine that was not a drugstore pipe. Brings back memories of early piping days in the 70's. The Tinder Box Uniques were reportedly made by Charatan.

My latest pipe purchase was a dud. It was a late-night minimum bid on eBay that I immediately regretted. It was ugly as sin and when I received it, I noticed that it had literally broken in half and been repaired. It had a badly caked meerschaum lining.
Long story short, life is too short for ugly repaired pipes, so I broke it in half and threw it in the trash.
Onward and forward.
Finally found some. I was in Ft. Smith (nearly 3 hours from home) taking the LSAT today and couldn't resist checking out the local pipe and cigar shop. They had Penzance in stock. $20 a tin but I didn't know when I'd find anymore, so I picked one up. I would have bought more but after staying in a hotel and eating out at restaurants for a day and a half, I didn't want to spend more money.
Man it is really good. The hype is justified with this one.
Maybe my fortune finding this in stock is an omen and set the stage for a good score on the test. Fingers crossed.

If it were online I would agree that it was pricey.
But tins of Dunhill and Samuel Gawith are $17.99 here. Even Orlik tins are $16. Bulk tobacco (Lane, PS etc.) are $9.50 for 2 oz.
It's not the B&Ms trying to screw us though, we have a 68% tobacco tax here in Arkansas (excludes cigars, they have a flat .50 tax per stick). Big brother has to save us from ourselves by discouraging tobacco use.
So with that considered, I went ahead. It is the first tin I've ever purchased over an actual counter.
First of all, good luck on the LSAT score!
Re Penzance, y'all are making me feel guilty - There's a B&M in Charlottesville, VA who often has it in stock. I get down there for business once in a while, and pick up a few ounces when I can. I think the owner is now realizing how rare it is, and how lucky he is to be on Esoterica's distribution - every time I go there it's about $2 more per ounce :)
A small tobacco order for me.
I'm out of Peterson Irish Flake so I picked some up. Also trying some SG Skiff Mixture. Haven't tried it and I like Oriental forward English blends so thought I'd give it a shot.
Picked up a few more ounces of Penzance :)
Picked up some McClelland St. James Woods, Dark Star, and Blackwoods Flake last week, with the 20% CI discount.
Picked up four 10 packs (Padilla, PDR, and Nica Libre) during CI's 10 pack with free 20$ gift card deal a while ago. I planned on spending about 100$ on D&R tobaccos anyway, so the cigars ended up basically being free.
With this whole FDA debacle, I'm planning on a few hundred dollars dropped on C&D bulks, figuring it'll be as good a time as any in smokingpipes runs a sale on C&D bulk in the next few months. If not, I may go through mars cigars (29$ a pound for C&D) and grab some cobs from them while I'm at it.
Looks like no G&H purchases for me, since I'd rather have 2x as much C&D for only a little more $. Too bad, I like G&H but I can't convince myself that I need anything more than a few ounces of ennerdale for posterity.
I think I must be the only guy in the tobacco community who isn't that worried about the FDA. I think government will do what government does, prolong and drag this out for years to come. If not, I guess I will have poop on my face.
You really can't go wrong with either G&H or C&D IMO. But I think the correct answer is really to buy them both myself :thumb:
Plus, if I had to lose one of those two, I'd have to drop the C&D. G&H are producing what I consider the best tobaccos in the world right now :piper:
I guess it was Pease who said something to the effect of "tobacco isn't going to get any cheaper". I'd rather lock in my price at 26 bucks a pound for C&D during smokingpipes sale, and get that stuff aging anyway!
I *love* G&H, don't get me wrong. But what a choice. I love, love, love C&D/Runowksi Burleys though. Pegasus is a desert island blend, and haunted bookshop is one of my all time favorite strong smokes. And so many others. If G&H didn't cost twice as much, it would change things a bit though. I do like C&D's less refined style, also, which is hit or miss taste wise for people.
Took advantage of the recent 20% off sale that Cigars International had. Thanks to @BryGuySC for letting me know about it.

Just put in an order with a guy over the pond for 4oz each of 1Q, EMP, LNF, and LTF. Love all of the first three, and a mate has recommended the LTF, so that's a new one for me.
Picked up a new cob and a tin of McClelland Balkan Blue at Georgetown Tobacco in DC.
Stopped by Nat Sherman in NYC and hung out for a little while. Smoked a cigar and bought a tin of Esoterica Dorchester.
A small tobacco order for me.

A couple of favorites, as well as some Dunhill Ready Rubbed. Haven't tried it yet and have been wanting to.
Also picked up a small sample of Bob's Chocolate Flake. This is one I didn't like at first, but its been a year since I've tried it and my palate has changed a lot since then so I'm going to give it another try.
Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Cherry Cream Flake - Tobacco Reviews
Sounds tasty!
Gawith Hoggarth tho, not SG. Even better Imo although I fear the potential Lakeland monster's hideous head arising
Had a couple bowls of it this afternoon.
The first was straight out of the bag and pretty damp. I did enjoy it much more than I did the first time around. There was a floral/soapy taste that was prevalent. I assume this is the 'Lakeland' taste that everyone refers to. It was not unpleasant at all. The chocolate was noticeable and the latakia was present but in the background.
I tried another bowl that I rubbed out and dried for about an hour. The floral taste was less noticeable.
I actually think I liked it better on the moist side.
Definitely one to try.
I've not smoked any tobacco with "chocolate" in its name, but Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake, has chocolate overtones (for me, at least). And no Lakeland notes, a plus in my book.
