the only real "repair" for cracks like that are to have a tight band or cap put on the end of the shank. Most can cover the crack completely but your's looks a bit longer.
I'd send that pic via email to a repair place and have them give you an estimate.

Yeah that's about what I thought. Dang. And it's such a nice pipe too! I'll send them the pic, though.

Yeah that's a bummer..some of my favorite pipes were cheap baskets that I got on a whim.
