For another hillbilly repair you could trim it down and press an empty pistol casing over it or cut a band from a rifle cartridge. @Tobias Lutz tried this back at the other place though and it didn't turn out so well For a 100% hillbilly repair you can wrap something like that very tightly with copper wire - or better yet music wire, then cover it with clear acrylic (read: clear nail polish)
