I'll likely get as deep in it as frugally possible. $2K is a bit much for a class. I'll be more than happy smoking some squiggly sticks for a bit.

So a 1/2 tsp mixed 1:6 makes about an ounce? And that's enough to create several sticks or that's plenty to make at one time? The way I'm understanding your method is to create plenty of glue keeping it in the fridge until use and warming it up when ready.

So it's better to spread the glue with a finger?

I'll most certainly want several different mold sizes, though I prefer gauges under 50 as I'm not a big guy and don't quite care for a huge stick hanging from my mouth unless it's box pressed.
