Usually down to about an inch-and-a-half. If it is smoking good; tastes good, still holding together, burning relatively straight, not burning my lips or fingers; I will take it to about an inch. If it is really good and still burning well, I'll go to half an inch or less and maybe even use a nubber or the tip of my knife to hold it if I'm at home. I won't go that far in public places like at the lounge.
